History

Missenden Abbey was founded in 1133 and was favoured by Henry VIII who visited on many occasions. The Abbey was left to Queen Elizabeth who granted it to the Earl of Leicester. In 1574, a house was constructed on the site of the dissolved monastery.

The Abbey has had many previous owners, amongst the famous were the Carringtons and the Abbey (now used as a home) stayed with their family right up to 1946.

The Abbey is now used as a wedding venue and conference centre and is part of Buckinghamshire University.

Library

The library is the smaller out of the three rooms, it holds a very modern décor. Around the surrounding walls are beautiful and elegant oak bookcases filled with books. With a civil ceremony licence, this room is perfect for those intimate gatherings.

The garden room is beautifully light and airy and is a stunning place to say your vows. With a gorgeous stained glass window and grand oak double doors, this room holds both elegance and style.

Dining Room

Host your wedding breakfast in one of the dining rooms. With high vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and chandeliers, these are sophisticated and bright spaces.

Marquee

If you require more space or just prefer a different setting, there is ample space to erect a marquee on the Abbey's grounds. The gardens and abbey create a picturesque backdrop.

Catering

The chefs and catering team at Missenden Abbey have created an excellent menu for you to select from sure to suite everyone's taste. The dishes created are from the finest quality ingredients and use only locally sourced produce. A buffet menu can be created for your evening guests.
